Frequently Asked Questions
-
For a first visit, you will meet with your counsellor and discuss concerns and goals. We use the first session to get to know you (or your child), understand strengths, challenges, history, and goals. From there, we will jointly develop a plan (therapy, intervention strategies, or assessment).
For minors, the first session is always a parent/caregiver session. This session is designed for parents/caregivers to meet with the counsellor and discuss concerns, background and goals. For this session, we do ask that minors not be present to allow for open discussion.
-
Everyone is different, and needs vary. The number of sessions you will need will be a conversation between you and your counsellor.
-
As a registered counsellor in Canada, most insurance companies provide coverage for services. We always recommend that you check your coverage with your insurance provider.
-
If you do not have insurance, we accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express payments through our encrypted CRM program Jane.
We also accept e-transfer payments on a case-by-case basis.
-
Please provide at least a 24-hour notice if you would like to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Late cancellations will incur a session fee (exceptions made for illness-related cancellations). No-shows will incur the full session fee.
-
You don’t need to wait until a problem is “severe.” Many people begin therapy when feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of what to do next. We can also offer shorter “check-in” or consultation sessions to help you determine whether ongoing support or an assessment is appropriate.
If you’re uncertain whether your concern is within our scope, feel free to contact us to discuss.

Yes — we use Jane App, a secure TeleHealth platform compliant with privacy standards.
On a computer: you usually click a secure link (no download needed).
On mobile / tablet: you may be prompted to download the app.
You will join a virtual waiting room, and your practitioner will connect with you there.
Please ensure your environment is quiet and private to protect confidentiality and therapeutic engagement.
Note: for younger children (typically under age 12), in-person sessions may provide more flexibility in intervention approaches; virtual sessions with children may have limitations.

Session length varies depending on the service (therapy, assessment, consultation). Typically, therapy sessions last about 50 minutes. Often, play therapy sessions end after 40 minutes, and the last 10 minutes are reserved for collaboration with parents.
